Researchers from GreenDrill and the University at Buffalo discovered that the dome last melted around 7,000 years ago during the early Holocene period. The Holocene period, spanning the last 11,700 years, saw temperatures 3-5 degrees Celsius higher than today. "For natural, mild climate change to have melted Prudhoe Dome, it may only be a matter of time before human-induced climate change peels it back again," says Professor Jason Briner.
