Child Star Keke Palmer Leads the Cast in Peacock's Dark Comedy Adaptation of 'The 'Burbs'
Former child star Keke Palmer is set to star in the TV adaptation of the 1989 Tom Hanks film, 'The 'Burbs'. The dark comedy series, premiering on Peacock, sees Palmer play Samira, a restless new mother who moves back to her childhood home with her husband, Rob (played by Jack Whitehall), and their newborn son. However, the seemingly idyllic neighborhood soon takes a turn as a mysterious neighbor moves in across the street, and a murder mystery unfolds.
The series also features a stellar cast, including Paula Pell and Julia Duffy as nosy neighbors, and beloved child actor Haley Joel Osment. Executive producer and Family Guy and Ted creator Seth MacFarlane brought Palmer on board as both a star and a producer, intrigued by the script's unique blend of humor and suspense.
'The 'Burbs' explores themes of a 'Black girl in the new neighborhood,' postpartum struggles, and the chilling realization that something sinister is afoot, with no one believing her,' Palmer shared with Entertainment Weekly. The eight-episode arc offers a fresh take on the original film, which is now considered a cult classic, starring Tom Hanks as Ray Peterson, a man who suspects his new neighbors, the Klopeks, of being part of a murderous Satanic cult.
The original cast included Corey Feldman, Bruce Dern, and the late Carrie Fisher, adding to the series' rich history. 'The 'Burbs' premieres on February 8 on Peacock and Foxtel On Demand at 9 p.m., inviting viewers to question their perceptions of suburban life and the unexpected twists that can arise.
